Spring is the season of preparation, excitement, and new adventures — and Wild Place Adventures is thrilled to announce two incredible workshops coming your way this May! Whether you’re dreaming of hauling in a massive halibut from Alaska’s salty waters or preparing for the ultimate mountain hunt for Dall sheep, we have you covered.
Let’s dive into the details:
🎣 Hooked on Alaska Fishing: Halibut, Salmon, Crab & Shrimp Workshop
Date: May 22, 2025
Time: 6 PM
Location: Yukon University – Room C1440
Get ready to explore the rich opportunities of Alaska’s coastal waters! Our Hooked on Alaska Fishing workshop is designed for anglers of all experience levels. We’ll cover halibut fishing tactics, river and ocean salmon fishing, and even throw in a bonus session on crab and shrimp trapping to maximize your coastal harvest.
If you’ve ever dreamed of fishing in Haines, AK, or setting traps for a seafood feast, this workshop will give you the hands-on knowledge to succeed. From understanding tides to selecting the right bait for each species, we’ll set you up with tips that only come from years of experience.
Workshop Highlights:
How to fish for halibut: anchoring vs. drifting techniques
Trolling and spin-casting for salmon in rivers and oceans
Setting and managing crab and shrimp traps responsibly
Reading tides for maximum success
Gear recommendations and regulations overview
✅ Quick Tip:
When halibut fishing, try using a two-hook rig with one bait low to the bottom and one a few feet above — halibut are curious and often swim up to investigate!
🐑 Yukon Dall Sheep Hunting Workshop
Date: May 29, 2025
Time: 6 PM
Location: Yukon University – Room C1440
Dreaming of a sheep hunt in the Yukon mountains? Our Dall Sheep Hunting Workshop is built for both new hunters and seasoned mountain veterans who want to sharpen their skills and prepare for the challenge of a lifetime.
We’ll cover everything from physical conditioning and glassing techniques to gear selection and understanding sheep behavior. Successful sheep hunting isn’t just about strength — it’s about strategy, patience, and preparation. This workshop is an opportunity to network with fellow hunters, share experiences, and gain that extra edge when it matters most.
Workshop Highlights:
Preparing physically for the mountains
Gear essentials: packs, optics, and boots
Identifying prime sheep habitat
Tips for judging rams legally and ethically
Mental resilience and staying motivated on the hunt
✅ Quick Tip:
When scouting or moving along ridgelines, avoid skylining yourself. Dall sheep have exceptional eyesight — if you’re silhouetted against the sky, you’re easy to spot, even at a distance.
